About FIRST - FLEETER - FISHBURN
Please sign in to see more.
Andrew FISHBURN was my Great Great Great Grandfather. His son William Henry FISHBURN was my Great Great Grandfather whose daughter Ann married John WARICK & were my Great Grandparents & their daughter Elizabeth Catherine WARICK married William PURNELL, my Grandparents.

Andrew was a Marine Private in the detachment sent with the First Fleet to guard the convicts. Andrew left England aboard the `Friendship` on the 13th May 1787 but was transferred to the `Sirius` at Capetown, South Africa & arrived in Botany Bay between the 18th to 20th January 1788. Among the Marines & Crew were seven carpenters & Andrew was one of them.

Andrew sailed on the `Sirius` to Norfolk Island in 1790 where the Marines staged a strike in the Colony as they complained that the convicts received better rations than themselves & they refused to collect their rations until the matter was rectified. The revolt crumbled & the Marines gave no further trouble.

Lt. Ralph Clark was quartermaster & keeper of the records & said the men were the most mutinous he had seen & Andrew Fishburn was mentioned as one of them.

Andrew elected to stay in the Colony & in 1791/4 in Sydney married convict Sarah DONNELLY who had a daughter Ann born in 1791 to Alexander WILLIAMS. Sarah married Andrew FISHURN as Sarah WILLIAMS.

Her daughter Ann WILLIAMS also known as Mary Ann WILLIAMS married John SMITH under the name of Ann FISHBURN not WILLIAMS.

Two sons were born to Andrew & Sarah FISHBURN, Andrew in 1793 & William Henry in 1795 - making their marriage more likely to be 1794. Nothing else is known of Andrew Jnr & Andrew Snr died in 1796.

Sarah FISHBURN then co-habitated with George MELLON spelt MILLEN/MELLEN & had two daughters Mary MELLON born 1802 & Sarh MELLON born 1803.

GEORGE `MILLIN` & Sarah FISHBURN married St Johns Church Parramatta in 1810.
